Mawaru Penguindrum: Absurdly random…or maybe not as much

Since its very first episode, Mawaru Penguindrum may have already established a sort of form for itself: sheer unpredictability. Others may disagree though, and say the show is not unpredictable as it is just a montage of crazy random sequences. Well, it wouldn’t matter how you look at it; you will almost always wind up clueless after an episode. With sixteen episodes in, the mystery still remains as a mystery, despite the latest revelations and such. I feel that the series is just begging us to speculate, only to have our guesses flipped around stomped on. So why am I pointing out something that is already so apparent from this show?

Fall 2011: A Week of First Episodes

Fall is now in full throttle (almost), with only a few more shows to make their appearance. Contrary to my last post, I ended up picking more shows than those that I’ve mentioned.

The first week is always fun, since this is where we get to see if the hype holds true or not. There are a lot of hyped up shows, and I think it’s safe to say that some held up, while some did not. Here’s my take on the first week of Fall 2011.

My Fall 2011 Lineup

It’s the last day/night of September (here anyways, depends on the timezone) and the Fall season has already shown its presence. We are mere nights away from a fresh batch of promising and very well-anticipated titles.

My Anime Bucket List, part 1

I think that at least some if not all anime fans have their own list of shows they do plan to watch, on the ever expanding future. Those shows that you hear are good, so you decide to try it out some day. Or shows that really piqued your interest, but you never have the time to watch it. Maybe even shows that you just know you want to watch, but can’t get yourself to do so. Whatever reason it may be, I’m sure you guys have at least one or two titles (if not a whole list) that you really really wanna watch, before you go and “kick the bucket”

Update: 2 weeks of AWOL, and 100th finished series

To those who may have noticed, I haven’t posted anything lately. The past few weeks were pretty rough at school alongside some personal matters, and I couldn’t get the free time that I wanted so I could write. No worries though, all is well again, and I’ll be making posts this coming week.

On a different note, according to MAL I have now officially watched 100 anime titles (yeah, it ain’t a lot yet, but it’s still awesome to know) And what show completed the list? None other than the recently finished Steins;Gate. Very awesome.

So yeah, I’ll be back ^^

Watching a series because of its OP/ED

I have always wondered how one chooses a series that he/she would like to watch. Not counting the on-going titles, how do you look for Anime? Of course, enjoyment of the series as a whole is a given. But, what about other reasons?

Research? Okay. Word of mouth? Also common. How about a series’ opening/ending song? (included the links if you want to check out the OP/ED)

My Summer 2011 Picks: Kamisama no Memo-chou

By the end of the Spring season, we witnessed the end of a well accepted series that, not only competed with the Mystery genre, but also set the bar to the “ordinary boy-encounters-extraordinary girl” type of story. Yes, I am talking about Gosick. I loved that series, not because of the detective aspect of it, but for the sheer presentation of it’s story. It made it to the top of my Winter lineup, along with Mahou Shoujo Madoka and Kimi ni Todoke II.

With the start of the Summer season however, another series takes a whack at using Mystery, and attempts to knock Gosick from its pedestal. From 1924 to the 21st century, my third pick, Kamisama no Memo-chou.

My Summer 2011 Picks: Blood-C

In my last post, I said that I was feeling wary about discussing the Summer season titles. A lot of people believe that the Summer 2011 lineup is pretty bad. I don’t fully agree with that statement. I have totally been looking forward to some titles, and some of them have lived up to my expectations so far. So, wariness? Pffft. Who am I kidding? I’m stoked to talk about the four shows that I picked up. Compared to my Spice and Wolf post though, this may be a little rough, since I haven’t tried making a commentary about a series that is new, or hasn’t already finished yet. So I did my best in scouring the info that I need, to provide my insights on the shows.

With that said, how about I start with the first title that I watched out of my picks? This is, Blood-C.
