First and foremost, thanks miharusshi for tagging Leap250’s Blog again.

I’m gonna assume that you guys already know all about the Liebster Award, but for those of you who don’t know what it is – it’s essentially a blog post chain where writers tag other writers to answer a set of questions. The real goal is to expose new readers to potentially new blogs, but hey, it’s also really fun to just answer questions.

The specifics would be as follows:

• Thank the person who nominated you by linking his award and/or blogger
• (Optional: Provide some background information and the rules on Liebster Award)
• Answer the 11 questions provided by the blogger who nominated you
• (Optional: State 11 facts about yourself)
• Nominate 3~10 bloggers to do this, too
• Write 11 questions for your nominees to answer and notify them of your nomination

And as is always my disclaimer for this – these rules aren’t really “rules” so much as they are just general guidelines. It’s completely fine to deviate from it them as you wish. Well, now that formalities are in order..

With that out of the way, we start with:

1. If you could live in Japan (and also assume full Japanese knowledge), would you? Why?

If it’s not a permanent thing, then yeah, most definitely. It’s always interesting trying to adapt to/assume different cultures, and it’s not like Japanese culture is something new to me. Or, at least, that’s what I hope I got out of four semesters of elementary Japanese.

2. If you could have any job at an animation studio (apart from the President/CEO, because he’s hiring you), what would it be?

Being a scenario writer would be nice. I don’t think I can pull off full-blown scriptwriter/storyboard just yet (which would be really awesome).

3. What is(are) your favorite book(s)?

Oh man. It would’ve been tough to pick just one. I read alot in my spare time. I think I could even make a whole post dedicated to just for this. But, since we have eight more questions after this, I’ll keep it to three (I also limited my selection to books I actually own, because paper > screens, lol).

Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card – social science meets science fiction in one of the best human drama novels that I’ve read.

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami – romance, action, fantasy, thriller; and one helluva build-up

FAUST Volume 1 – this one’s here for sentimental reasons. Mostly because inside this book is most probably the only official English localization of Kara no Kyoukai that’s ever gonna exist (granted, it only has Overlooking View, but still).

4. What do you think is the role of art in society? This includes all forms of art: dancing, music, literature, film, animation, sculpture, etc.

I’ve adopted a particular way of viewing society (Luhmann) as not being just a group of people, but a closed system, comprised of networks of communications – which includes language and products associated with it. Art, in all its forms, are also ways through which we communicate our thoughts, feelings, and what have you. If one does not understand literature or films of a certain society, then he/she effectively becomes “excluded”, so to speak, from society. Conversely, if one understands, or at least appreciates what is being conveyed, regardless of who or where he/she is, that person is part of that society.

5. What is(are) your favourite food?

I’m not much of a foodie, so mostly local homecooked meals.

6. Favorite pastimes or hobbies other than anime?

Reading. Listening to music. Watching American TV shows. Video games (although I’ve fallen out a bit on this one, except for Fate/Grand Order on my mobile phone). I also try to write fiction on occasion.

7. What’s the anime you always go back to when you don’t feel like watching something new?

Saki and Big Windup!
Any episode of these two titles can hold me for a good thirty minutes.

8. Do you let the opening and ending songs play or you prefer to skip them?

When I marathon stuff I tend to skip ’em, but otherwise I let them play out. I’ve been doing this a bit more often than I used to now that I’m way more comfortable listening to Japanese songs than I was a couple of years ago.

9. Have you ever thought about joining an international organization, like WHO, FAO, WWF, etc.?

I’ve never really thought about it, I mean, I always thought being a member of a group like PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) would be nice, so I suppose the closest group would be the WWF.

10. What do you think of jewelries?

I don’t really accessorize (I don’t even wear a watch most of the time, lol) so I can’t say, but I think I can appreciate good jewelry/people wearing jewelry that fits them.

11. Do you think you’ll still be blogging five years from now?

Tough to say. It’s just as easy to fall out of blogging as it is to get right back on it when you feel like writing. But, I think in my own way I’ll continue to write down my thoughts about anime and stuff in the future – whether as something public (like this blog) or just something I keep for myself (like a diary, which is really the real “start” of Leap250’s Blog)
