– I took some liberties translating this particular line given it’s rather odd phrasing and how it’s usage in relation to said phrasing in everyday Japanese conversation. The two words comprising the line are koboritsuku (meaning “to stick/cling to”) and hanarenai (“unable to be freed”). Used together it’s taken to mean something that you can’t be rid of, possibly “ingrained” or “etched in memory”, or simply “unseparable”.

さよならバイバイ (sayonara bai bai lit. farewell, bye-bye) is the eighth and last track off of yonige‘s Coming Spring EP released in 2015.
I mentioned in my earlier translation of Saki that yonige has a knack for being fairly relateable with regard to the words being sung in their songs and we see that here in one of their first offerings in さよならバイバイ.
It tells that all-too-familiar story of two people who at one point may have been very close, yet over time began to drift apart. Unlike the vehement emotions displayed in アボカド (Avocado), or the bittersweet melanocholy of 沙希 (Saki), what I feel from さよならバイバイ is a mature coming-to-terms kind-of thing with someone — a mutual understanding of sorts between to parties who both agree that they’re no good for one another. This usually comes up in youthful romances, like, high school maybe even grade school teens getting in a relationship.
But even the most immature tangles of love can have the greatest impacts on one’s life no matter how fleeting — they become part of a person’s life, stuck to ’em like glue. The song harkens to this possibility as tonally it alludes to a person looking back to those times, yet still acknowledging that those were memories that they were grateful for, for better or for worse.
And there you have it, another yonige song translation in the books! As I always say though, take these with a grain of salt as I’m still learning the language myself, plus songs in particular are fairly nuanced and aren’t structured in the most grammatically correct fashion so do forgive any and all mistakes you come across (and please don’t hesitate to point them out as well!).
